Glass & Glazing
We offer a vast selection of clear, decorative, and patterned glass options in both double- and triple-glazed sealed units. Georgian Bars, Astragal Bars, leaded glass in diamond or square patterns, authentic solder joints – you name it, we can do it.
You can even have stained glass, from a selection of our standard designs or a custom design to match your original windows or a design of your own creation.
There’s so much more to Glass than just... Glass!
We also offer a wide choice of patterned and obscure glass options, perfect for bathrooms, hallways or side windows.
You can mix stained glass with clear to personalise your window (as many 1930s properties do), or casement windows with square leading for a Tudor look.
Our glass range gives you the ability to maintain privacy, providing the optimum blend of form and function. Whether it’s for privacy, pure style or to allow more light into internal rooms, our textured glass gives you a stylish range of attractive options.
Textured glass is available in a range of privacy levels using different grades of obscuration, and we can offer a wide range of coloured top lights, simple or ornate bevels, and apply your chosen design to windows and doors.

Choosing the right Glass for you
Tempered, laminated, safety, low-emission, double-glazed, triple-glazed, argon-filled, decorative, low-emission, U-values… how do you decide what Glass to have? That’s where we come in here at KRB Windows & Doors. We live and breathe it, and we know Glass inside out. Just ask.
We supply a full range of low-emission glass (often referred to as Low-E) with laminated and tempered glass, to provide safety and security where needed. Once an optional extra, Low-E glass is now fitted as standard, in compliance with our membership of FENSA (industry Gold Standard for Building Regulations Compliance in replacement windows and doors).
Low-E glass is a fantastic way to reduce energy bills, by providing excellent thermal insulation with U-values down to 1.4 W/m2K. It allows high light and solar heat transmittance for the best use of natural lighting and beneficial solar heat gain.
Low-E glass also provides colour neutrality in both reflection and transmission, giving windows a natural appearance, whilst maintaining a pure reflection.
For privacy, or just pure style, patterned backing glass gives you a whole range of attractive options on double-glazed sealed units. There are various different levels of obscuration, so you can pick the level of privacy that is just right for you.
Lead is used to add style, character and authenticity to your windows, using a blackened technique to provide a darkened, aged feel to the structure with malleable H-shaped lead strips (called lead cames).
Soldered joints are an optional extra that also provides a genuine antique or traditional authentic look.
Lead is available in 4mm, 6mm, 9mm, and the traditional 12mm widths.
Integral Georgian Bars add great character to your property, yet still retain the ease of cleaning and maintenance to your windows, as the feature bars sit wholely inside the double-glazed sealed units (unlike Astragal Bars – see below).
Available at 18mm or 25mm widths in white, silver aluminium, or any wood grain finish we offer with our uPVC range.
Astragal Bars, a relatively new development to the uPVC market, are decorative surface-mounted strips applied to the outside and inside of a double-glazed sealed unit (paired with an internal ‘spacer’) to mimic Georgian Bars on traditional timber windows.
We offer two different bar profiles:
- Ovolo: designed with a double-rounded profile to suit Ovolo-framed windows and doors.
- Bevelled: designed to replicate the style of traditional timber frames, with a slim, angular bevelled sash bar.
Laminated glass is created by sandwiching a thin vinyl layer, typically of Polyvinyl Butyral (PVB), between two pieces of glass using heat and pressure. It is primarily used for its safety, security, and sound reduction benefits. Its toughness and resilience makes this type of glass an excellent safety glazing option.
PVB films are able to block 99% of ultraviolet radiation and help to prevent furniture, wall coverings, and other indoor items from discolouring due to sun bleaching.
With 6.4mm glass thickness compared to the standard 4mm, laminated glass can also add sound insulation to properties, which may be particularly beneficial when living on busy streets where noise pollution is a problem.
Triple glazing is the ultimate window choice for customers wanting to save energy, reduce their energy bills, reduce their CO2 footprint, and enjoy a warmer, more comfortable home.
Triple glazing far exceeds the thermal efficiency of an energy A-rated window by more than 35%, as well as sound insulation by more than 20%. It does this by incorporating:
- Industry leading six-chamber uPVC frames and sashes for optimum insulation.
- Structural uPVC. This means no heat conducting steel and no need for thermal inserts.
- Three panes of glass let the sun’s warmth in, whilst reducing heat emissions that escape.
- Argon-filled cavities and warm-edge spacer bars to create greater insulation performance.
You can specify your double-glazed units with internal blinds, if you wish. These use a clever magnetic catch system with a slider on the inside, and Venetian-style blinds within the sealed unit. They can be fully closed, partially open at any height, fully open, and with 180 degrees of internal tilt to allow for light transmission as required.
